Citigroup is preparing to roll out a cryptocurrency custody service by 2026, marking a significant milestone in traditional finance's embrace of digital assets. The Wall Street giant has spent nearly three years developing the platform, which will safeguard clients' digital tokens alongside traditional holdings.

The MOVE reflects deepening institutional interest following regulatory clarity from the GENIUS Act. "We're aiming to deliver a credible custody solution for asset managers within coming quarters," said Biswarup Chatterjee, Citi's global head of partnerships and innovation. The service positions Citi among forward-looking banks capitalizing on crypto's maturation.

This initiative represents Citi's most substantial blockchain commitment to date, signaling a strategic shift as major financial institutions transition from crypto skeptics to service providers. The custody offering arrives alongside growing bank participation in stablecoins, tokenization, and digital asset trading.
